We are keen to raise the profile of the sport and introduce more people to gliding. We also support our local communities in their charitable fundraising efforts. Each year we display one of our gliders at selected local events:

McCarthur Glen Designer Outlet, Ashford, Saturday 12 May 2012

We were here all day. Some 100 people spoke to us, 51 entered our free Trial Flying Lesson competition (to be drawn on 30 June), a number of Trial Flying Lessons were bought and numerous photo opportunities created for budding pilots under 10 years old who had photos taken of them in the Junior cockpit. Many thanks to club members who helped out on the day: Daniel Coyler, Alan Maxted, Tony Parr, David Shearer and Grahame Underwood,

Folkestone Jubilee Air Show, Saturday 2 June 2012

This was the first show in the town since the Shepway Air Show ceased some nine years ago. We had display space on the beach near the main catering area and were busy all day with lots of interest shown in the glider and the sport. Old friends of the club came up and introduced themselves, visitors from all over the world (including the USA, Australia, Finland) spoke with members and many youngsters queued up patiently to have their photo taken by Mum or Dad in the cockpit of the Junior (more budding future pilots?). We had a good number of expressions of interest in Trial Flying Lessons, Holiday Courses and Fixed Price to Solo packages. Highlights of this well organised Air Show included the Red Arrows, BBMF, Typhoon solo display and our friends at the Tiger Club in their Turbulents and Moths.

Additional pictures can be found in the Photo Gallery section of this web site.

Many thanks to club members who helped out on the day: Daniel Coyler, David Crimmins, Alan Maxted, Anne Ruglys, Ian Russell, Mike Sandford and Terry Webster.

Boughton Aluph Fayre, Saturday 9 June 2012

We were very happy to support this well established village charity event. The team departed Challock late am and the Junior was rigged and the display prepared well before the Fayre's opening at 1330. The glider drew lots of attention over the afternoon which was luckily blessed by decent weather. Once again, many people entered the free Trial Flying Lesson competition and a lot of interest was shown in coming up to the Club and flying or even just watching aircraft launching and landing over a cup of tea. The time and effort was worthwhile: explaining the sport and clearing up misconceptions, also letting local people know what we get up in the sky over their villages.

Club members who helped on the day were: Daniel Coyler, John Davidge, Ivan Lozanov, Anne Ruglys and Mike Sandford.

Challock Goose Fair, Sunday 9 September 2012

We jumped at the chance to display at Challock, our very close neighbours, when asked to do so in the depths of a very cold winter. The temperature hovered around the 25 centigrade mark for most of the day, necessitating frequent trips to the refreshments tent and ice cream van. Our stand (photos to follow) was very well attended by visitors of all ages from far and near. Children jumped at the chance to have their photo taken in the cockpit of the Junior, and we had many expressions of interest in coming up to the club and experiencing a Trial Lesson.

Members who helped on the day were David Shearer, Peter Mather, Colin Beer, Daniel Coyler, Terry Webster and Henry Beam ( who was particularly impressive in dealing with young and old visitors alike).
