Crop Identification

Visit www.fieldselection.co.uk for website providing visual guidance to identification of crops from the air. The site shows crops viewed at various times throughout the year with photographs taken from 1000 - 1500 feet, and at ground level.

Examples:

Oil Seed Rape - Mid-June

The flowers have fallen off & the crop has a course texture & pale green colour which is fading fast. This is the most dangerous phase of the crop for glider pilots as the field has lost its warning yellow colour.

Winter Wheat - Mid-June

Winter wheat will appear very dark from the air with pronounced tramlines. The dark tramlines indicating that the crop, at arounf 75cm, is now too tall for safe landing.
